Planning a hiking trip to a National Park, or a long road trip?  Do so in the luxury of a 2013 Hyundai Tucson without the price of a luxury CUV.

For the 2013 model year, Hyundai delights by increasing the number of standard features on both Tucson GLS and the top-of-the-line Tucson Limited.  The fast growing compact crossover now demands comfort features once belonging only to luxury models and favors miles per gallon over miles per hour.  The new standard features on Tucson GLS are fog lights, automatic headlight control and heated front seats.  The Limited trim level gains proximity key entry with push button start.  Tucson packages these luxury comfort features in an EPA estimated 30 mpg on the highway and a distinctive design making it a sophisticated CUV for the active lifestyle, with a compact size ideal for singles and couples alike.

The long wheelbase and generous width of Tucson, combined with Hyundai’s expertise in interior packaging, have produced an interior that delivers class-leading rear legroom.  The Tucson has more passenger volume than Rogue and Escape.  The spacious cabin on Tucson Limited is further enhanced for all passengers by the available panoramic sunroof.

The high-tech cockpit comes standard with Hyundai’s signature blue lighting, proximity key with push button start, power windows, power door locks, fold-away mirrors and remote keyless entry with alarm and panic button.  A Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition and steering wheel audio and cruise controls are also available.  Another premium feature in the Tucson Limited is a CleanAir Ionizer that automatically kills germs within the system when the heater or air conditioner is running.  Other available features include leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, power driver seat with lumbar support, automatic headlights, front wiper de-icer and dual front automatic temperature control.

Audiophiles will love Tucson’s 160-watt audio system with six speakers.  This system includes XM Satellite Radio and iPod/USB auxiliary inputs and an iPod cable as standard equipment.

The 2013 Tucson optional upgrades include a navigation system with rearview camera and XM NavTraffic. This navigation system also provides Bluetooth streaming audio capability.  This easy-to-use unit can be controlled via a 6.5-inch LCD touch-screen or voice-activation by headliner-mounted microphone.  The system comes matched with the 360-watt premium audio system that includes an external amplifier and subwoofer.  It plays compact discs, accesses digital music files employing Bluetooth streaming audio or allows driver and passenger to access their personal listening devices through the iPod/USB/auxiliary inputs.  Bluetooth audio wirelessly streams music from a phone to the audio system.

Hyundai’s commitment to making Tucson fuel efficient continues through the availability of two transmissions: a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC manual control and a five-speed manual transmission.

Hyundai’s six-speed automatic transaxle helps improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.  Shifts are silky-smooth with an option of manual control through the SHIFTRONIC feature.  For the driver, the six-speed delivers a performance edge while helping improve highway fuel economy.  There is no dipstick in the transmission gearbox. Instead it is filled with automatic transmission fluid that is good for the life of the vehicle under normal usage conditions, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

Tucson is loaded with life-saving standard safety features including ESC with traction control, six airbags and active front head restraints. Its braking system features four-wheel disc brakes controlled by an advanced four-channel ABS with Brake Assist, providing maximum braking force when a panic stop is detected, and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to optimize brake performance with uneven weight distribution.

The 2013 Tucson is engineered to provide its passengers with multiple defensive safety layers. The steel unibody has integrated crumple zones and a high-tensile front sub-frame designed to work together to reduce the forces that typically reach the passenger compartment.  Particular attention has been paid to increasing the stiffness of the front side members, which have been enlarged and straightened.  All four doors also have internal guard beams to protect passengers in a side-impact collision.

Safety, reliability, and style all define the 2013 Tucson, as well as those who choose to drive it.

Hyundai Equus

2014 Hyundai Equus Carlsbad

Hyundai Equus

Luxury is at a premium with the 2014 Hyundai Equus.  From a redesigned exterior, to an interior made to perfectly compliment each other, the Equus is set to raise the bar for Luxury cars.

The 2014 Equus exterior enhancements convey a premium-sport design message, starting with a new 19-inch turbine-blade alloy wheel design in a polished silver finish that relays motion whether parked or on the open highway.  The front grille chrome bars are thinner, with sharper contrast to the blacked-out portions of the grille for a sportier look.  The front fascia also has been redesigned, with the former chrome accents removed in favor of a modern premium appearance that includes lower fascia opening strakes. The headlamps offer jeweled design elements and include chrome contrasted with blackout finishes for a distinctive appearance.  New LED fog lamps are now standard.  Side mirrors have been redesigned for enhanced aerodynamics and tail lamp graphics move to a more horizontal theme.

Hyundai engineers wanted the 2014 Equus interior to perfectly complement the enhancements to its exterior.  Thus, the themes of premium and performance again greet the driver behind the wheel.  The entire instrument panel and center stack have been redesigned with more premium materials and an ergonomically correct layout, with new button iconography for quicker and easier feature recognition. The center console and shift lever reveal more premium material selection and contemporary premium-luxury design cues.  Steering wheel control layout has been improved, with new low-sheen button designs and icons. Similarly, rear passengers will enjoy a new rear console and button layout, with available dual 9.2-inch, high-resolution, adjustable seatback video screens to enjoy movies, audio media, HVAC or seating functions. Rear passengers can even search restaurant locations and provide navigation system directions directly to the driver’s navigation screen.

The busy executive as well as the couple heading out on the town will feel right at home in the 2014 Equus due to abundant luxury touches and passenger comfort features.  This ambience begins with superior quality materials and design layout.  The leather upholstery, Microfiber suede headliner, genuine wood trim and leather-wrapped French-stitched instrument panel showcase the richness of the Equus interior.

The seats are fully adjustable with plenty of width and support. Thermoelectric devices located in the seat backs and bottom cushions provide control for heating, cooling and humidity. There is ample leg and headroom for drivers over six-feet tall. In fact, Equus has more leg, head and shoulder room in the front and rear seats than the Lexus LS460.

The driver’s cockpit boasts an abundance of features and premium services. The Driver Information System (DIS) provides navigation, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, HD Radio technology, hands-free Bluetooth phone system, Blue Link telematics, and much more.

2014 Equus driving dynamics also have been revised to minimize traditional ride and handling compromises, with Normal and Sport modes each taking on a more differentiated ride and handling character. The air suspension was recalibrated; Sport mode receives more controlled damping, while Normal mode receives slightly enhanced ride comfort while retaining a well-controlled handling demeanor. The front suspension bushings were also revised to enhance suspension function. For those customers that experience adverse weather conditions such as ice and snow, a new Snow mode function was added to the drive mode system, for both safety and ease of control in challenging road conditions.

In urban areas, the Equus is easy to maneuver and park, thanks to electro-hydraulic steering and its electronic parking guide assist.  On winding roads, the Equus benefits from the precise wheel articulation delivered by its five-link front and rear suspension geometry.

The 2014 Hyundai Equus is powered by Hyundai’s 5.0-liter Tau DOHC V8 engine, producing 429 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, with a higher specific output than its normally aspirated premium luxury competitors.

The 5.0-liter Tau also features direct injection technology. This high-pressure direct injection system dramatically increases power and torque, while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

The luxury and power of the 2014 Hyundai Equus is the perfect match for the executive, or anyone who appreciates luxury and refinement in their automobile.

2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Features Advanced Hybrid Blue Drive Architecture

2013 Sonata Hybrid Carlsbad

2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Carlsbad

2013 Sonata Hybrid Carlsbad

With gasoline prices continually on the rise, especially in Southern California, the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid increases fuel economy and stays engaged in an all-electric mode more often and for longer periods of time, with a much more advanced version of Hyundai’s Hybrid Blue Drive architecture. The improved Blue Drive system optimizes electric-only driving with a higher output 35 kW electric motor, a more powerful 47 kW Lithium Polymer battery pack as well as an optimized hybrid operating strategy.

As in previous Sonata Hybrid models, the 2013 Sonata Hybrid also features a clutch to decouple the gasoline engine from the drivetrain; when in pure electric drive, the Sonata Hybrid can drive electrically up to 75 miles per hour.

With the upgraded battery storing more energy, Hyundai engineers also increased the output on the electric traction motor from 30 kW to 35 kW which results in increased energy pulled into the system, used for higher torque output in electric drive mode before the system has to start the internal combustion engine.  These enhanced changes deliver both improved fuel economy and drivability and the higher output electric motor is also essential to improving energy capture during regenerative braking.

The body contour and design of the 2013 Sonata Hybrid features the unique exterior that sets it apart from other Sonatas via the combination of a re-shaped front and rear fascias with a deeper air dam, extended rocker panels and lower drag wheels allow air to flow around the body with less resistance.

The sleeker lines and lower drag coefficient allow the Sonata Hybrid to easily slice through the air, combined with low rolling resistance tires and the reduced friction in the newly optimized Hybrid Blue Drive powertrain significantly reduces the amount of energy required to maintain highway speeds. The result is the remarkable highway fuel efficiency of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid at 40 mpg or better.

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, with Hyundai’s improved Hybrid Blue Drive technology, has included a lithium-polymer battery pack from the very first model, making Hyundai one of the first automakers to regularly incorporate this remarkably efficient battery technology into production vehicles. Lithium-polymer is the next generation of lithium-ion battery technology and is perfect for automotive applications thanks to a particularly robust and reliable chemistry.

The lithium-polymer cells, developed with Hyundai’s partner LG Chem, use a manganese-spinel chemistry that join together to form a perfect combination of power delivery, energy density and thermal stability.  Thermal stability is crucial to ensuring the durability of batteries, effectively eliminating the need to replace the battery pack during the normal lifespan of the vehicle. The electrodes in older lithium-ion batteries expand and contract significantly with the heating and cooling that naturally occurs during charging and discharging. This thermal expansion causes cracks in the electrodes which ultimately reduces the cell’s ability to hold a charge. Manganese-spinel lithium-polymer cells have much lower expansion rates and are thus able to go through tens-of-thousands of charge cycles even without having to use a heavier, liquid-cooling system. The advances in battery technology are lowering cost, increasing performance, and providing longer life which are all contributing to making Hybrid vehicles affordable,
